Transitioning out of the uniform is one of the hardest missions nobody briefs you for. The structure is gone, the unit is scattered, and the skills that made you excellent at your job do not translate on paper. I have watched veterans rebuild by doing three things. First, they find a new unit: a veterans group, a gym, a church, an employer who understands. Second, they let the mission change shape instead of ending, whether that is family, mentorship, or service in a new uniform. Third, and hardest, they talk. Not a debrief, just honest conversation with people who get it. If you are in that gap between who you were and who you are becoming, hold on and reach out. You served us. Let us stand with you now. And if the weight gets too heavy tonight, call or text 988 and press 1. That line is always manned.
