I have said a lot of clumsy things to people I love, and almost none of them remember the words. What they remember is who was in the waiting room, who showed up with soup, who sat on the porch without needing to fix anything. Presence is a language, and it fluently covers for every awkward sentence you will ever say. So I stopped drafting the perfect text and started driving over. I stopped worrying about saying the right thing at funerals and just stood next to people. If you are unsure how to love someone well this week, do not write them a paragraph. Be where they are. Words fade. Showing up is what they keep.
