Two weeks after my knee replacement I was crying because I could not walk to the mailbox. My daughter taped a piece of paper to the fridge and titled it Laps. One lap around the living room got a gold star. It felt ridiculous until the paper filled up and I could see, in my own handwriting, that I was getting better. The mailbox came in week five, the grocery store in week nine. Recovery lies to you and says you are standing still. Write it down, and you get to argue back with evidence.
