I am a nurse, a mother of three, and historically a person who hit the ground running at 6 a.m. and wondered why I was frazzled by 8. Now I set my alarm five minutes earlier and sit in the dark kitchen with a cup of tea and no screen. Sometimes I pray. Sometimes I just breathe and listen to the house. Those five minutes act like an anchor for the whole day. The chaos did not shrink, but I stopped being tossed by it. My family noticed before I did: I apparently got nicer at breakfast.
